Spanish – 7 Curriculum, based on national and state guidelines, includes instruction in communication skills and introduces Hispanic culture. Students build upon basic vocabulary and grammar, with emphasis on verb conjugation and sentence structure, to expand their conversational and writing skills. We constantly make comparisons between Spanish and the English language and discuss cultural differences and similarities. We look for connections between Spanish and other academic areas. We seek opportunities to use our knowledge of Spanish in the greater community. Spanish – 8 This year’s focus is to continue building upon the material covered in seventh grade, both in language and culture. Class instruction features more oral Spanish. Student classwork, homework and projects will involve more extensive use of the target language as they prepare for Level Two Spanish in high school. |

Spanish - 5-6 Introductory Spanish begins in sixth grade. During this year students will explore the language, countries, cities and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Special attention will be given to the 19 Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America. We will also learn about the culture of Spain. Students will not be fluent by the year's end; but will have a vast vocabulary and an enthusiasm for the next two years of Spanish at St. Mary of the Hills. |
