ACADEMICS

Religion

The curriculum supplies a balance of Scripture, doctrine, and morality. It includes the Church as a community and emphasizes celebrations.

Language Arts

This program has several content areas:

1. Phonics—review what is covered in first and second grades with a concentration on prefixes/suffixes
2. Vocabulary—words are taken from literature and the reading series
3. Comprehension—cover main idea detail sentences, cause and effect comparison, inference, characterization, and setting
4. Oral Reading—concentrate on fluidity and expression

English

The program teaches the eight parts of speech, writing skills, and oral communications.

Mathematics

Addition and subtraction facts are mastered. Multiplication concepts are introduced and times tables are mastered. Students are introduced to division and fractions. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills are maintained.

Social Studies

The course includes a map handbook, learning about communities and their geography. Students learn different types of places (urban, rural, suburban, and moveable communities). Discussion topics include Native Americans, Pilgrims, Pioneers, and the impacts these groups have had on today’s world. Students will touch upon topics relating to government and our nation’s capital.

Science

Students explore in more depth the concepts of life science, physical science, and earth science.
