Boston Duck Tour Essay Contest
December 2007
For the third consecutive year, two of our 5th grade students won 1st and 2nd place in the Annual Boston Historical Society Essay Contest. First place winner was Caitlin Towle, and second place winner was Niamh Sutherburg. This accomplishment is a credit to not only Mr. McDermott, but all of the teachers who work so hard to prepare their students in their writing. The contest was especially difficult this year because it encompassed a topic quite difficult to write about--Massachusetts Innovations. All names & schools are blacked out on the submissions to assure that the winners are picked fairly. Much preparation was done earlier in the year on this, and the 5th grade will again enjoy a Duck Tour in the spring. Mr. James Healey from the Historical Society stated that there were many many more entries this year and that the judges were particularly challenged to pick winners. He emailed Mr. McDermott and stated that "the judges were very impressed with the quality of the essays from your class." Please read their essays on display in the hall through December. Keep up all that great writing!

CONNECT-ED
December 2007
As part of the Emergency Crisis Plan, we have adopted Connect-Ed at our School. It has become an invaluable resource, especially because of recent snow storms. Ninety-nine percent of our families were reached through Connect-Ed. From what we know everyone got home safely and did not have to sit in traffic. To clear everything up, we need your help. If you DID NOT receive a phone call on your home phone and both cell phones, you need to let the office know. In case of an emergency, or a decision that I feel needs to be made, the only way we can get in touch with you is through Connect-Ed. Please watch your local channels for school cancellations. We follow Milton Public Schools. Please DO NOT call the school or the rectory.

Berry Brazelton. She will explore the typical and not so typical bumps that children inevitably encounter enroute to growing up. Do you need the words to explain a difficult or stressful life event to a child of any age? How do you help your child deal with life's disappointments? How do you handle the talk about death or illness with your child? Please consider joining us on Tuesday, October 16, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary of the Hills School Hall. This promises to be a fantastic evening that you won't want to miss. All are welcome!
