| It truly was a community celebration at St. Mary of the Hills School
for Halloween. Teachers, students, parents, and grandparents all took
part in the day’s festivities. With the sun shining brightly, our
annual costume parade for the princesses, ghosts, Power Rangers, devils,
and witches who took over the Pre-Kindergarten through grade 2 classes
got underway. As always, everyone waited with bated breath for the debut
of the teachers from the Early Childhood Center…how would the nine
of them dress as this year? The door opened and out stepped Mother Goose,
bringing to life some of her favorite nursery rhymes! The “Itsy,
Bitsy Spider”, “Mary Had A Little Lamb”, “Jack
Be Nimble” and the entire cast of characters from “Hey, Diddle,
Diddle” circled the school yard to a round of thunderous applause
from the crowd. Keeping tradition alive and their theme a secret, the
ECC staff started the day off on the right page! The festivities continued with an outdoor school-wide rally for our beloved Red Sox, the 2007 World Champions! Although there were no personal appearances by any of the Sox team members, we still kept our enthusiasm running high. Our step dancing team performed some fantastic routines, and the eighth grade led everyone in the singing of “Dirty Water” and a rollicking rendition of “Sweet Caroline”. Armed with a broom, it is rumored that a disguised 4th grade teacher (could it have been Mrs. Faherty?) reminded everyone of the Red Sox two spectacular sweeps on their way to the championship. Then it was back to the classrooms for a day filled with a combination of fun and frivolity without losing sight of the importance of academics and learning. In keeping with tradition, the day ended with the students and teachers sharing treats. With the help of families and the school community, the students and faculty and staff enjoyed a great day…and best of all, there were no tricks! |
