GRANDPARENTS HONORED AT ST. MARY’S

A wonderful morning of music and song was enjoyed at St. Mary of the Hills School on November 19th for Grandparents Day. Each one of our Grandparents received a hand-written invitation from their grandchild to attend the event. All guests were treated to a lovely continental breakfast, followed by a stellar musical performance, directed by our talented music teacher, Mr. Adams. The Pre-kindergarteners and Kindergarteners shared melodies they often enjoy singing in the classroom- “Let’s Go See Our Grandparents” to the tune of “Take me out to the Ballgame”- and students in grades 1 – 3 sang several catchy tunes highlighted by “Happy Grandparent’s Day”. Our guests then adjourned to the classrooms where students proudly shared what they are learning in class.

Grandparents traveled far and wide for the occasion. Dr. David Mendelson cancelled all of his patients for the day and he and his wife, Sally, traveled all the way from Cornwall, NY to surprise his grandson, Quin Feeney, a 2nd grader, and granddaughter, Jayne, in the Pre-K program.

The event even attracted some great-grandparents, who came out to spend the day with their family. Marcus Perry, of Randolph, a 4th grader, was excited about having three generations in his family present for the festivities. His mother, grandmother and great-grandmother all gathered to celebrate our families and our heritage.

“Many of the grandparents here today laid the foundation by choosing a catholic education for their own children”, said Pam Vasta, Principal Pre-K-4. “They value an environment where faith, family and academic achievements are valued as highly as spiritual development. That is why we devote this day to them.”

Thanks in no small measure to the help of dedicated faculty and parent volunteers who helped to make this day so memorable.
