Celebration

Fifty is Fabulous! St. Mary of the Hills School recently completed the kick-off to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the School. The weekend’s events began with the “Celebrating the Stars” social evening at the Milton Hoosic Club. The standing-room only crowd of over 250 people had a terrific time reminiscing about teachers, classmates, and life after St. Mary’s. On Saturday blessed with superb fall weather, the School community enjoyed a day of apple picking at the Little Rascals Orchard in Harvard, MA. The day culminated with a beautiful outdoor Liturgy celebrated by Reverend Father Arthur Wright. The Most Reverend John Dooher celebrated Mass on Sunday at St. Mary of the Hills Church. Concelebrating with Bishop Dooher were current Pastor, Reverend Arthur Wright, former Pastor, Reverend Thomas Foley, and Reverend William Palardy, St. Mary of the Hills School Class of 1974 graduate. Faculty member Alexia Etienne and over 30 students from Grades 6-8 performed a Liturgical Dance that concluded with a standing ovation from Bishop Dooher, three religious sisters who were teachers at St. Mary’s, the new Superintendent of School for the Archdiocese of Boston, Dr. Mary Grassa-O’Neill, and a capacity audience of past and present students, parents, faculty, and alumni. Second Grade teacher, Virginia Flynn, was awarded a certificate from the Archdiocese of Boston for over 25 years of teaching at St. Mary of the Hills School. After rejoicing in the gifts bestowed on the School, it was time for the traditional birthday party complete with cake, entertainment provided by “The Bubble Man,” and other fun and games. On Thursday nearly 100 golfers gathered at the Wollaston Country Club for the 16th annual FORE the Children Classic. Following a spectacular day, a dinner reception followed at the Country Club. St. Mary of the Hills School is thriving thanks to all of the gifts of time, talent, and treasure bestowed upon it by the community. Happy Birthday to St. Mary of the Hills School. May the School continue to be blessed with the spiritual, academic, and social success! |
