Native American Homes
![]()
After learning about the various North American Native Americans,
the fifth-grade students were put into groups and given the challenge
to build some examples of the homes these people lived in. Each group
picked a paper out of a hat to find out what home they would have to
build. The choices were: Large House (Pacific Northwest), Adobe Pueblo
(Southwest), Teepee (Great Plains), Roundhouse (Northeastern Woodlands),
or the typical shelter of a Native American in the Southeastern Woodlands.
The students were not given any instructions on how to build the house.
All groups had to come up with and bring in their own materials. The
homes were all creations of the imagination and engineering skills of
each student. Each group ran into its own set of bumps in the road (clay
cracking, forgotten materials, not enough materials), but each group
also rallied to use problem solving to come up with the amazing projects
that resulted. GREAT JOB GRADE FIVE!!!! |
