Egg Project

The 5th-grade was given a pretty strange Social Studies assignment to do in class on January 21 - the day after President Obama's Inauguration and the week of Martin Luther King, Jr Day. Mr. Paris gave each student an egg and told the class to color their egg to look like them. They could be as creative as they wanted. Some students gave themselves baseball uniforms, necklaces, and even facial hair!! After all of the eggs were colored, Mr. Paris went around to each student and had them crack their egg into a bowl (the students were NOT happy!) while the students kept the shells. After all the eggs were cracked into the bowl, Mr. Paris challeneged the students to come up to the bowl and pick out which egg yolk was theirs...no student could do it. The students saw that the eggs were a lot like them and the people of the world - they may have looked different from eachother on the outside, but everyone is the same on the inside.
