Ascension Thursday Mass

On May 1, 2008, the 3rd graders at Saint Mary of the Hills school celebrated Ascension Thursday with the entire school. The Mass was a celebration of when Christ ascended into heaven 40 days after Easter Sunday.

Along with readings and prayers, the students also brought forth gifts. The traditional bread and wine were presented, along with a statue and book of St. Francis, petitions that each third grade student wrote, a globe, and flowers representing the beginning of Spring.

St. Mary’s Youth Director Frank Connell, Jon Nevin, our own Mr. McDermott, and a few members of the 3rd grade provided the music. “Gathered as One” was sung by our 3rd graders during communion.

The 3rd graders ended the celebration mass with a song titled, “They Hung Him on a Cross.” These students learned this song for their re-enactment of The Last Supper.

The Mass was a great topping to an amazing week at St. Mary of the Hills. After a week of preparation for science fairs and Academic Night presentations, it was nice to have the school community come together to celebrate Jesus’ Ascension.
